More about this artwork

Discover the enigmatic beauty of Karl Wiener’s Ohne Titel (Frauenfigur, Rückenansicht), a captivating artwork that dates back to around 1928. This painting features a subtle yet striking portrait of a woman viewed from behind, embodying a sense of mystery and grace that is characteristic of Wiener’s style. The subject is rendered with soft yet vivid pastel hues, primarily in shades of red, blue, and white. She stands elegantly, dressed in a flowing white dress with a ruffled hem that adds a dynamic sense of movement to the composition. The red accents on her clothing and shoes inject boldness into the otherwise serene palette. Her blonde hair, gracefully styled, further accentuates her poised demeanor.Wiener masterfully creates a blend of realism and abstraction, using blurred and smudged outlines that suggest a moment captured in time, possibly hinting at a fleeting or transient nature. The abstract dark shapes in the background contrast with the clear and luminous figure, focusing the viewer’s attention on her and adding depth to the scene.Ohne Titel (Frauenfigur, Rückenansicht) is not just a depiction of a woman; it is a study in color, form, and mood, making it a fascinating piece for contemplation.

Karl Wiener was an Austrian draftsman , graphic artist and photo montage artist. Because of his political and time-critical montages of the 1930s and 1940s, he was posthumously referred to as the Austrian John Heartfield on the occasion of the major retrospective on his estate in the Wien Museum.
