More about this artwork

In the expressive world of heartfelt abstraction, "Aufbau in Grün und Rot," created around 1921 by the astute artist Karl Wiener, poignantly captures the essence of geometrically orchestrated chaos. This compelling artwork harnesses a stark and vibrant palette of green and red, drawing the viewer into a complex interplay of shapes and forms.Karl Wiener, known for his sharp, clean lines and rich colors, presents a composition that is both chaotic and controlled. The painting features an assortment of overlapping geometric figures that appear to be almost architectural in nature, evoking the sense of a structure or an edifice under construction. The dominating colors - vivid green and deep red - not only create a visual impact but also set a mood that is at once dynamic and contemplative. The textured application of these hues adds depth and a tactile quality, making the artwork resonate with the observer on multiple sensory levels. Most intriguing in Wiener’s painting is the almost palpable tension between the elements. The boundaries between the colored shapes blur and merge, creating a fusion where colors both clash and harmonize, inviting interpretations that delve into the realms of emotional and psychological resonance."Aufbau in Grün und Rot" is a brilliant example of early 20th-century abstract art that remains profoundly relevant. It challenges viewers to explore their perceptions of form and structure, encouraging a deeper engagement with the underlying feelings it provokes.

Karl Wiener was an Austrian draftsman , graphic artist and photo montage artist. Because of his political and time-critical montages of the 1930s and 1940s, he was posthumously referred to as the Austrian John Heartfield on the occasion of the major retrospective on his estate in the Wien Museum.
