More about this artwork

"Herbstabend," a captivating creation by Karl Wiener, invites viewers into the serene ambiance of an autumn evening. As the title suggests - translating to "Autumn Evening" in English - this enchanting landscape painting eloquently captures the soul-stirring aesthetics of dusk during the fall season.Wiener's use of a subtly vibrant palette brings the sky alive with hues of pink, yellow, and blue, meshing harmoniously above the horizon. The bold and glowing reds and oranges strewn through the clouds suggest the sun's last fiery moments before nightfall. Beneath this vivid spectacle, the darkened silhouettes of the landscape form a strong visual anchor, contributing to the scene's tranquil yet melancholic mood.Produced around 1924, this piece not only exemplifies Wiener's affinity for color and emotion but also delicately captures the ephemeral beauty of nature’s transitions.

Karl Wiener was an Austrian draftsman , graphic artist and photo montage artist. Because of his political and time-critical montages of the 1930s and 1940s, he was posthumously referred to as the Austrian John Heartfield on the occasion of the major retrospective on his estate in the Wien Museum.
