More about this artwork

The painting "Woman Holding a Lip Brush" by Goyo Hashiguchi features an elegant portrait of a Japanese woman engaging in the intimate act of applying makeup. The woman is depicted in a thoughtful, serene pose, holding a small lip brush delicately to her lips, which she is carefully tending to. She gazes into a handheld mirror, concentrating on perfecting her appearance.Goyo Hashiguchi’s style is evident in the fine detailing and the soft contours that define the woman’s features and attire. Her kimono is intricately designed with floral patterns and traditional motifs, which are beautifully understated yet rich in detail. The texture and flow of the fabric are suggested through subtle lines and shading, giving a sense of depth and realism to her clothing. Her hair is styled in a traditional manner, adorned with accessories that emphasize her refined aesthetic. The lighter tones used for her skin against the detailed darker lines of her hair and kimono create a striking contrast that draws attention to her gentle expression and the careful action of applying the lipstick.Overall, Hashiguchi’s work captures a moment of everyday beauty and culture, reflecting his mastery in portraying the grace and subtlety of human expressions and traditional Japanese attire.
