More about this artwork

The painting "Noon Above Newburgh" by Frederick Childe Hassam depicts a scenic view over a body of water, most likely a river, looking towards hilly landscapes in the distance. The tranquility of the scene is captured through a subtle, soft palette of blues, greens, and light touches of purple and white. The sky seems vast and is lightly filled with clouds, painted in a way that conveys the softness of the midday sky. Below, the river is rendered through loosely brushed strokes of varying shades of blue and green, suggesting gentle ripples on the water's surface caused by a light breeze. The distant hills or mountains, bathed in a hazy blue, contribute to the depth of the painting, giving a sense of serene remoteness. Overall, Hassam's work exemplifies his expertise in employing an impressionistic style that captures both the mood and the light of a bright, clear day. The choice of colors and the manner of stroke application enhance the luminous quality of noon, a time when the sun is high and the world seems vivid yet peaceful. This piece is a beautiful expression of nature's quiet beauty, viewed under the gentle warmth of the noonday sun.
