More about this artwork
The painting "Real Automóvil-Club de Cataluña. Copa Tibidabo (1914)" by the renowned Catalan artist Ramón Casas showcases the fusion of elegance and early automotive enthusiasm in early 20th century Barcelona. The artwork serves as a poster promoting a car race organized by the Royal Automobile Club of Catalonia, held on May 24, 1914, on the winding roads leading to the Tibidabo hill.At the center of the composition stands a sophisticated woman, clad in a fashionable ensemble reflective of the era. Her long, red gown paired with a flowing brown coat and a striking hat adorned with red feather plumes, captures the viewer's attention instantly. In her hand, she holds a program for the event, suggesting her role as either a spectator or promoter of the race. The background of the painting subtly features the racing scene, with cars speeding along a curved road amidst a cloud of dust, enhancing the sense of movement and competition. This juxtaposition of the serene, poised figure against the dynamic backdrop effectively conveys the excitement and modernity that characterized the early days of automobile racing in Catalonia.Ramón Casas' skillful use of color and detailing not only celebrates the stylish life of the Catalan elite but also commemorates an important event in the region's sporting history.
