More about this artwork
Welcome to a glimpse into the subtle elegance found in the art of Pierre Joseph Redouté, a celebrated botanical painter from the 19th century. One of his remarkable works, "Rosa Alba Flore Pleno" (1817-1824), captures the ethereal beauty of a double white rose, its blooms rendered with astonishing detail and delicacy. In this painting, Redouté showcases a lush white rose in full bloom at the center, its petals softly unfurling to reveal a warm, yellow heart of stamens. The flower's pristine purity is accentuated against a serene, neutral background, directing all attention to the fine veins and subtle shades of the petals. Surrounding the central rose are several buds in various stages of opening, suggesting the continuous cycle of life and growth. Sharp thorns punctuate the otherwise smooth stems, reminding viewers of the rose's nature to protect its beauty. The leaves, exquisitely detailed, exhibit a deep, rich green, their texture so vivid that one can almost feel the surface. Every vein and serration is rendered with scientific accuracy, typical of Redouté’s style, making this piece not only a work of art but also a botanical study."Rosa Alba Flore Pleno" is not just a portrayal of a rose but a testament to the artist's mastery in capturing the essence of botanical subjects, making it a timeless piece for both art enthusiasts and botanical scholars alike.
