More about this artwork

This painting titled "Three Peaches On A Plate" by Henri Fantin-Latour features an intimate and textured portrayal of three ripe peaches casually arranged on a simple white plate. The background is rich and dark, providing a striking contrast that highlights the warm, lush tones of the peaches. The artist has used a delicate brushwork to capture the fuzzy texture of the peach skin, adding a tactile realism to the fruit. Each peach is depicted with variations in color—some areas of the skin show a deep red blush while other parts maintain a softer, golden hue. This variation not only adds visual interest but also enhances the sense of volume and roundness of the fruit. The white plate on which they sit is painted with fine strokes, reflecting light and emphasizing the simplicity of the scene which further draws the viewer’s focus to the intricate detail and vibrant colors of the peaches. The brushstrokes and textures in this painting demonstrate Fantin-Latour's keen observation and his ability to convey the simple beauty of everyday objects. This work exemplifies his mastery in still life painting, capturing both the subtlety and richness of his subject matter with elegance and precision.

Flowers and fruit still life paintings by Henri Fantin-Latou (1836-1904), French painter, illustrator and lithographer.
