More about this artwork

"Still Life with Lemon and Grape" (1929) is a captivating painting by the artist Walter Kurt Wiemken, showcasing his unique approach to the traditional still life genre. In this composition, Wiemken combines a rich palette of colors with a distinctively bold and expressive brushwork style to portray everyday objects in an enigmatic yet familiar setting. The painting features an eclectic mix of items arranged on a draped table, creating a lively interplay between the various elements. Central to the scene is a delicately designed vase adorned with motifs, holding a sprig of vibrant flowers. Next to the vase, a lemon and a cluster of dark grapes add a refreshing touch of natural simplicity, complementing the floral centerpiece. To the right, an intriguing white statuette of a horse balances the composition, providing a whimsical contrast to the organic shapes of the fruit and flowers. The background of the painting blurs the lines between the indoors and outdoors, with hints of a window on the right and a richly textured curtain on the left. This backdrop suggests a domestic interior but leaves much to the imagination, encouraging viewers to fill in the details with their personal interpretations.
