In the painting, a serene winter forest scene unfolds, where a gentle stream meanders through a snowy landscape. The water, partially frozen, reflects the subdued light filtering through the tall, slender trees that dominate the scene. These trees stand stark against the winter sky, their trunks dark and bare, contrasting with patches of snow that cling to the ground and the rocks in the streambed. On the left, the sun casts long shadows across the snow, suggesting a late afternoon time. A glow at the horizon hints at either sunrise or sunset, warming the cold blue and white hues of the snow with soft tones of orange and red.
