More about this artwork

The painting titled "Passing" by Arūnas Žilys is a captivating piece distinguished by its vibrant colors and unique composition. It features a solitary figure standing prominently against a richly textured background. The figure, elongated and slightly distorted, possesses a serene and introspective presence, characterized by a long face and closed eyes, suggesting a moment of deep contemplation or passing through different states of being. The artist has adorned the figure with an intricate patterned garment that flows and swirls, adding to the ethereal quality of the painting. The mixture of geometric and organic patterns, including checkerboards and spirals, infuses the work with a dynamic and mystical air. Intriguing symbols like hearts and various abstract motifs embellish the dress, indicating perhaps themes of love, spirituality, or identity. The background in a vivid red hue grounds the figure while also serving to highlight it. The texture and varying shades suggest depth and complexity. Above, a squiggly line perhaps represents a horizon or another separating element, adding another layer of narrative or demarcation between realms or states of mind.Overall, "Passing" could be interpreted as a visual exploration of transformation, the journey of life, or the passage between different existential planes, all rendered in a style that is richly symbolic and profoundly detailed. The choice of colors, intricate patterns, and the solemnity of the figure’s posture work together to evoke a sense of mystery and introspection.

His paintings have clearly defined subjects; however, the subjects are taken from the fantasy world. For instance, many subjects look like they‘re right out of fairy tale, with many theatrical elements and decorations. They‘re usually full of mistery and suspense, as if you are looking at fairy tale frozen in time. The paintings transport you back in time, and all sudden you‘re wondering whether you‘ve seen this setting before, some time your own childhood fantasies. The subjects usually entail many different cultural aspects from ancient history to modern times, and could be attributed to vitually any part of the world, thus making Arūnas‘ paintings highly admired by people from a variety of backgrounds and cultures. The painting subjects are instantly admirable. They avoid main features of post-modernism art, such as declarations of aggressiveness, ugliness and anger.
