More about this artwork

"Vasara," a remarkable painting by the Lithuanian artist Arūnas Rutkus, captures a serene and dreamlike depiction of summer. Painted in 2012, this artwork invites viewers to delve into a contemplative and almost surreal atmosphere that Rutkus is renowned for.The painting showcases a woman lying on her stomach in a sun-washed field, her figure partially enveloped by a luxurious white dress with intricate lace details. The fabric of her dress is rendered with such detail that it almost appears luminescent, contrasting beautifully with the muted, earthy tones of the background. Her legs are casually crossed at the ankles, adding a relaxed and carefree air to her posture. Her face is obscured by a wide-brimmed hat, adding an element of mystery and anonymity, while a single butterfly perches delicately near her. This small detail of the butterfly, set against the vastness of the field, evokes a sense of fleeting beauty and the impermanent nature of summer days. The texture of the painting is particularly notable, with the roughness of the field contrasting with the smoothness of the dress and skin tones. Rutkus masterfully plays with light and shadow to enhance the tactile quality of the surfaces, inviting the viewer to feel the warmth of the sun and the gentle touch of summer breeze."Vasara" is more than just a visual representation; it is an evocation of summer's transient beauty, encouraging a deeper appreciation of the moments that slip quietly by.
