More about this artwork

At the heart of our collection this season lies a stunning masterpiece by the revered German artist, Otto Modersohn, titled "Sommerliche Dünenlandschaft in Quelkhorn bei Fischerhude" created in the year 1925. This enchanting landscape painting captures the essence of a summer day in the tranquil environs of Quelkhorn near Fischerhude. The canvas is dominated by a rhythmic composition of dunes, each stroke building upon the other to form a harmonious and undulating landscape. Modersohn's skilled use of rich, verdant greens and warm earth tones gives the painting a vibrant yet earthy feel, suggesting the fertile nature of the land. The sky, a soft mosaic of blues with wisps of white clouds, casts a gentle light over the scenery, creating a feeling of warmth and openness.Central to the painting is a depiction of modest rural dwellings nestled amidst lush greenery. The red roofs of these homes offer a striking contrast to the predominant greens and yellows, drawing the viewer’s eye directly towards human habitation within the natural setting. This subtle interplay between man-made structures and nature creates a narrative of coexistence and harmony. This artwork is a fine example of Modersohn’s dedication to capturing the mood of a landscape, reflecting his deep connection to nature and his exceptional ability to translate it onto canvas.
