More about this artwork

Nils Kreuger's painting "Spring Ploughing" is a pastoral tribute to the dedication and laborious routine of farmers during the spring. The scene captures a singular, poignant moment in the life of a farmer, immersing the viewer in the quiet yet intense energy of early agricultural practices.Set against a subdued backdrop, the painting depicts a farmer leading a pair of horses through a ploughed field. The earth beneath their feet is richly colored, suggesting the fertile soil of early spring. The farmer, clad in simple attire, handles a plough with determination and focus, turning the rich, red soil to prepare it for planting. The imagery reflects a deep connection between man, animal, and the earth, showcasing the raw, symbiotic interactions that sustain rural life. The most striking aspect of Kreuger's work is his use of light and shadow, which imbues the scene with a sense of time and weight. The light appears to emerge from behind the horizon or off the edge of the field, highlighting the mist around the horses and the gleam of moisture on the freshly turned soil. This interplay of light not only enhances the textural details of the field but also metaphorically illuminates the hope and renewal that spring brings to the agrarian cycle."Spring Ploughing" stands out as an evocative piece that not only captures the essence of its era but also speaks timelessly about the human interaction with nature.
