More about this artwork

"At Dusk," created by the talented artist Eugène Jansson, is a stunning portrayal of a serene maritime scene enveloped in the tranquility of twilight. This art piece captures the essence of a ship steadfastly anchored in a vast body of water. The ship, depicted with meticulous lines and a detailed rigging, stands out against the textural, whimsical whirls that suggest the gentle movement of water. Above, the sky is dense with a web of fine, swirling strokes, adding a dynamic texture that contrasts with the dark, calming sea below.Jansson’s unique style is evident in the evocative, almost monochromatic palette, which enhances the feeling of the twilight hour, a time both of ending and anticipation. "At Dusk" is not just a visual work; it invites the viewer into a moment of introspection and solitude, encapsulating the reflective quietude that the end of the day brings.

Eugène Fredrik Jansson (18 March 1862, Stockholm – 15 June 1915, Skara) was a Swedish painter known for his night-time land- and cityscapes dominated by shades of blue. Towards the end of his life, from about 1904, he mainly painted male nudes. The earlier of these phases has caused him to sometimes be referred to as blåmålaren, "the blue-painter".
