More about this artwork

"Sommerliche Wiesen bei Fischerhude" (1912) by Otto Modersohn captures the serene essence of a summer day in the German countryside. In this vibrant landscape painting, Modersohn uses broad, expressive brushstrokes to bring to life the lush greenery of the meadows that stretch into the distant horizon, where a humble farmhouse can be spotted. The foreground is playfully dotted with white flowers, enhancing the feeling of a warm summer breeze. The focal point of the artwork is a solitary figure, clad in traditional attire, walking gracefully along the meadow's edge. Her presence, along with the undulating lines of the landscape and the vivid contrast of greens and yellows, invites viewers into a moment of pastoral tranquility and reflection.
