More about this artwork

Delve into the vibrant and captivating world of Emile-Allain Séguy's "Prismes-11", created in 1931. This unique artwork showcases a striking blend of geometric abstraction and natural patterns, reflecting Séguy's fascination with the beauty of the natural world and his commitment to innovative design."Prismes-11" features a series of cone-like structures that resemble pine cones or possibly stylized artichokes, set against a backdrop of diagonal stripes in shades of amber, rust, and beige. The cones themselves are intricately patterned with layers of scalloped scales, colored in a harmonious palette of blues, whites, and yellows. Each element is meticulously placed to create a rhythmic flow across the canvas, highlighting Séguy's skillful balance between repetition and variation. The painting's repetitive motifs and vibrant colors not only capture the eye but also evoke a sense of movement and depth, illustrating the artist's ability to transform natural forms into decorative art. Séguy, known for his contributions to both the Art Nouveau and Art Deco movements, incorporates elements of both styles here—celebrating organic forms with an abstract geometric twist."Prismes-11" is a testament to Emile-Allain Séguy's enduring influence in the world of art and design, offering viewers an enchanting visual experience that bridges the gap between the natural and the artistic.

Emile-Allain Séguy was a popular French designer throughout the Art Deco and Art Nouveau movements of the 1920s. Often confused with the French entomologist Eugene Séguy who was active during the same time period, E.A. Séguy designed primarily patterns and textiles and was heavily influenced by the natural world. He was particularly fond of the intricate patterns and beauty of insects (Eugene would have approved), which he saw as “mechanic wonders” that provided abundant inspiration for interior design (Schiff, 157).
