More about this artwork

We are delighted to showcase "Wooded Landscape with Little Birches," an exemplary painting by the distinguished Slovak artist Ľudovít Čordák. Painted between 1894 and 1896, this piece transports its audience into the serene heart of a forest, encapsulating the exquisite beauty of nature in Čordák’s signature style. The painting reveals a gentle woodland trail, leading the viewer’s eye through a tranquil grove of birch trees. These slender birches stand tall, with their delicate branches reaching towards a canopy obscured slightly by the dappled light of a soft, overcast sky. The forest floor, scattered with fallen leaves and subtle hints of green undergrowth, adds a rich texture to this peaceful scene, inviting one to imagine the soft rustle of leaves with every gentle breeze.Čordák's mastery in the use of muted greens and browns creates a harmonious palette that resonates with the quietude of a secluded forest. The play of light and shadow, along with the intricately detailed foliage, showcases the artist’s skillful brushwork and deep appreciation for his natural surroundings."Wooded Landscape with Little Birches" not only reflects Čordák’s prowess as a landscape painter but also stirs in its audience a profound appreciation for the quiet moments of beauty that nature offers. Ludwig Deutsch was an Austrian painter who settled in Paris and became a noted Orientalist artist.

Details of Ludwig Deutsch's life are obscure. He was born in Vienna in 1855 into a well-established Jewish family. His father Ignaz Deutsch was a financier at the Austrian court. He studied at the Vienna Academy of Fine Arts 1872–1875, then, in 1878, moved to Paris where he became strongly associated with Orientalism.
