More about this artwork

We are pleased to present a distinguished piece from our collection, titled "Bairei gafu, Pl.52" created by the esteemed Japanese artist Kōno Bairei in 1905. This work is a fine representation of Bairei's mastery in Kacho-e (bird-and-flower painting), a genre deeply cherished in the traditional Japanese art.The artwork depicts a scene of natural elegance, capturing the gentle droop of lilies in meticulous detail. The lilies, illustrated in a subdued palette, reveal a sensitivity to the subtleties of form and color that Bairei was renowned for. The blooms hang gracefully, their petals slightly curled, exposing the rich, orange stamens—a stark contrast to the soft tones of the petals and the lush green of the leaves that envelop them.Resonating with tranquility and a profound appreciation for the natural world, this painting is more than an artistic expression; it's a quiet meditation of the beauty found in the ephemeral moments of life. The composition and restrained use of color underscore a characteristic restraint and depth, inviting viewers to pause and reflect."Bairei gafu, Pl.52" is a perfect epitome of the harmony between art and nature, embodying the quiet beauty that Kōno Bairei dedicated his life to capturing.
