More about this artwork

We are delighted to present "La botanique de J. J. Rousseau Pl 21," an exquisite 1805 botanical illustration by the acclaimed artist Pierre Joseph Redouté. This painting captures the delicate elegance of the plant world, skillfully blending scientific precision with artistic grace. The illustration features a woody plant stem prominently displaying a series of vibrant leaves with serrated edges and rich textural details that evoke a sense of depth and natural beauty. Each leaf, rendered with meticulous care, casts subtle shadows that enhance its three-dimensional form. Emerging among the verdant leaves, clusters of white flowers blossom gracefully. These blooms, depicted with expert attention to detail, exhibit a gentle, almost ethereal quality that embodies the fragility and transient beauty of nature. This artwork not only highlights Redouté's mastery in botanical art but also serves as a visual tribute to Jean-Jacques Rousseau’s passion for botany. It holds a special place within the collection as it marries the scientific interests of Rousseau with the artistic flair of Redouté, creating a piece that is both a feast for the eyes and a source of botanical knowledge.
