Painted between 1817 and 1824, this piece exemplifies Redouté's masterful skill in capturing the delicate essence of flowers. The painting features a branch of the Rosa Collina Fastigiata, showcasing several blooms in soft hues of pink and white. Each flower displays a tender, almost ethereal quality, with translucent petals that reveal a warm, inviting center of golden stamens. The flowers are complemented by a backdrop of rich green leaves, which are detailed with realistic veins and a slightly serrated edge, emphasizing Redouté's attention to botanical detail. The stem, adorned with subtle thorns, anchors the blossoms and buds in an elegant upward sweep, suggesting the natural growth habit of the rose. Redouté's choice of a plain background focuses the viewer's attention solely on the botanical subject, allowing the beauty of the rose to stand proudly unchallenged."Rosa Collina Fastigiata" not only serves as a stunning visual delight but also as a significant scientific record. Redouté's works were highly valued for their precision in depicting various plant species, making them important references for botanists and floral enthusiasts alike. This painting is a timeless reminder of the beauty that nature holds and the skillful artistry required to capture it so vividly.
