More about this artwork

Welcome to our online gallery featuring the exquisite botanical painting "Rosa Longifolia" by the renowned artist Pierre Joseph Redouté, created between the years 1817 and 1824. This artwork is a fine demonstration of Redouté's masterful technique and his profound appreciation for the delicacy of nature. In "Rosa Longifolia," Redouté depicts the elegant structure and subtle beauty of a long-stemmed rose. The painting presents the rose in a naturalistic setting, capturing its slender form and the gentle arc of its growth. The flowers are rendered with soft pink petals that radiate a serene, almost translucent quality, each bloom and bud positioned gracefully along the green, thorn-adorned stem. The leaves are depicted in varying shades of green, detailed with fine veins, which add to the realism and depth of the composition. This artwork is not only a celebration of botanical beauty but also a scientific documentation of the rose species, reflecting the artist’s dual roles as both a botanical illustrator and an artistic genius.
