More about this artwork

We are pleased to present "Dal River," a striking etching completed in 1919 by the renowned Swedish artist Anders Zorn. This work beautifully encapsulates a serene moment along the banks of the Dalälven, Sweden's historically significant and scenic river in Dalarna County. The etching features an intimate scene of a solitary figure standing near the water’s edge, skillfully portrayed with a masterful composition of light and shadow. The figure, possibly a local resident about to engage in a swim or having just emerged from the refreshing waters, is rendered with soft, flowing lines that evoke a sense of gentle movement. The fabric, possibly a towel or garment, held in the figure's hand suggests a moment caught between action and stillness—a classic theme of Zorn's work highlighting the beauty of everyday life and his deep connection to nature.Anders Zorn's technique, particularly evident in the meticulous detail of the grass and the textured sketch lines that represent the windy atmosphere, allows the viewer to feel the tranquility and the subtle dynamism of this riverside scene.
