More about this artwork

We are delighted to present an exquisite painting by the celebrated botanical artist, Pierre Joseph Redouté, titled "Rosa Centifolia Anglica Rubra" from the period 1817-1824. This artwork finely depicts the lush and romantic essence of the Red Cabbage Rose.Renowned for his detailed and delicate botanical renderings, Redouté's portrayal of the rose shows a singular large bloom with voluminous, closely-packed pink petals that emanate a sense of softness and depth. The rose, splendid in its full blossom, is supported by a slender stem bedecked with sharp thorns and several smaller closed buds poised to bloom. These elements illustrate the rose's natural growth cycle and the promise of continuous renewal. The foliage displayed in the painting features rich green leaves with realistic venation, which beautifully contrasts the soft pink of the rose. The composition's clarity and the accuracy with which Redouté captures the texture and delicacy of the petals and leaves exhibit his mastery of botanical illustration. This painting not only showcases the natural beauty of roses but also serves as a testament to Redouté's skill in merging scientific precision with artistic flair.
