More about this artwork

We are delighted to present a remarkable piece from the esteemed French painter Pierre Joseph Redouté, titled "Choix des plus belles fleurs pl 053". This painting, created in 1827, is a masterful representation of Redouté's precision and passion for botanical illustrations. The artwork features a cluster of Narcissus poeticus, commonly known as the poet's daffodil. This perennial flower, vividly brought to life by Redouté's skillful hand, showcases delicate white petals that cup a striking, central corona of soft yellow edged with a bold, orange-red rim. The detailing of the stamens and the gentle gradation of color evoke a realistic sense of depth and texture that makes the blossoms almost palpable.Redouté's choice of composition, placing the flowers elegantly against a plain, muted background, ensures that the viewer's full attention is captured by the gentle interplay of light and shadow over the petals and leaves. The verdant green of the stems and leaves complements the cool tones of the white and yellow, creating a refreshing visual palette. This painting not only exemplifies Redouté's artistic mastery but also his scientific interest in botany, making it a precious contribution to both art and botanical studies.
