More about this artwork

We are proud to present "Rosa Gallica Agatha (Var. Delphiniana)," a masterful work by renowned botanical artist Pierre Joseph Redouté, created between 1817 and 1824. This exquisite piece beautifully captures the delicate intricacies and vibrant colors of the Gallica rose.In this painting, Redouté brings to life a rich pink Gallica rose, depicted with full bloom and budding roses alike, demonstrating his extraordinary ability to capture various stages of life within a single specimen. The central flower, in full bloom, shows an array of tightly packed petals, artfully shaded from deep pinks at the outer edges to lighter tones inward, evoking a soft, layered effect that is almost tactile. Just above, two roses in bud form extend gracefully, suggesting the promise of new beauty. The foliage, rendered in varying shades of green and delicately veined, provides a lush contrast to the soft pink of the petals. Each leaf and stem is meticulously detailed, underscoring Redouté's dedication to accuracy and his deep respect for the subject."Rosa Gallica Agatha (Var. Delphiniana)" is not only a celebration of natural beauty but also a testament to Redouté's technical prowess and his pivotal role in the tradition of floral illustration.
