More about this artwork

Explore the vibrant intensity and serene beauty of Henri Martin's impressionist creation "Dahlias Au Soleil" from around 1925. This exquisite painting captures an intimate moment of daily tranquility, a snapshot of simple pleasures arranged under the warm embrace of the sun.Centered in the composition is a vivid bouquet of yellow dahlias standing proudly in an ornate vase, their petals vivid against a backdrop of fiery red and orange foliage that suggests the lush vibrancy of a sunlit garden. Accompanying the flowers on a dappled tabletop are gentler elements of still life—a delicate porcelain teacup, a saucer that mirrors the vase's intricate pattern, and two ripe peaches whose colors echo the warmth surrounding them.Martin's masterful use of light and texture brings each element to life, with dappled light playing across the surfaces, creating a mosaic of color that both soothes and energizes. This painting not only showcases Martin’s skill with the brush but also evokes a sense of calm contemplation, inviting viewers to pause and appreciate the simpler moments of beauty in life.

Henri-Jean Guillaume "Henri" Martin (5 August 1860 – 12 November 1943) was a French painter. Elected to the Académie des Beaux-Arts in 1917, he is known for his early 1920s work on the walls of the Salle de l'Assemblée générale, where the members of the Conseil d'État meet in the Palais-Royal in Paris. Other notable institutions that have featured his Post-Impressionist paintings in their halls through public procurement include the Élysée Palace, Sorbonne, Hôtel de Ville de Paris, Palais de Justice de Paris, as well as Capitole de Toulouse, although the Musée des Beaux-Arts de Bordeaux and Musée des Augustins also have sizeable public collections.
