More about this artwork
Our current exhibition features a remarkable piece titled "Wolken" created by artist Karl Wiener around 1930. This delicate and ethereal work captures the transient beauty of clouds with a simplicity that speaks volumes about the artist's skill and sensitivity to his surroundings. In "Wolken," we see a minimalist landscape dominated by a large, organically shaped cloud that hovers above a flat horizon. The cloud, meticulously shaded, shows a dynamic and swirling texture, suggesting movement and transformation. This central element is powerful yet soft, embodying both the fleeting nature of clouds and their profound, sculptural presence in our sky.Beneath this magnificent cloud, Wiener has sketched a sparse landscape featuring a simple structure that appears to be a small house or barn. This building, drawn with clean, straight lines, contrasts with the soft, complex forms of the clouds, enhancing the dreamlike quality of the scene. The horizon is barely discernible, and other faintly sketched clouds float in the background, contributing to the overall sense of depth and vastness.Karl Wiener’s use of soft pencil tones on a textured paper adds a tactile quality to the work, engaging viewers in a visual dialogue about form, texture, and the interplay of light and shadow.
