More about this artwork

This striking painting by Wassily Kandinsky, titled "With sun," beautifully showcases the artist's movement towards abstraction, which would eventually define much of his later work. The painting is a vibrantly expressive and dynamic composition, characterized by bold use of color and sweeping, semi-abstract forms. The central elements of the image include a sun-like figure surrounded by what appear to be several fantastical creatures or figures, intertwined with abstract shapes and forms. The colors are vivid and varied, with bright yellows, deep blues, and fiery reds, evoking a sense of eruption or vibrant life.To the right of the painting, a collection of structures that resemble a village or cityscape can be seen, depicted in a stylized and somewhat geometric form, typical of Kandinsky’s transitional period of incorporating reality into abstract forms. These buildings appear almost as if they are part of a dream or a mythical realm, floating amidst the swirling colors and shapes. The use of black outlines helps to define the various elements and figures within the chaos of color, lending a sense of movement and energy that seems to radiate from the sun figure at the top.
