More about this artwork

The painting titled "Beruhigt" (Calmed) by Wassily Kandinsky, created in 1931, embodies the characteristics of his abstract style, one that deeply influenced the course of modern art. In this work, we can see Kandinsky's renowned use of bold colors and geoemetric shapes which is central to his exploration of visual harmony and the psychological impact of color. In "Beruhigt," the composition is a visually stimulating mix of both curved and angular elements. Centrally, a large, semicircular blue shape dominates, and could be interpreted as something calming and steady. This circle appears behind a series of sharp, black lines and smaller rectangles, mostly rendered in deep oranges and reds, perhaps symbolizing disruption or energy. Near the top-left corner, overlapping the large blue shape is a soft, beige circle, adding a gentle contrast to the blend of hues and shapes. To the right, separated from the central mass, is a careful arrangement of a grey circle and a line extending to a small red rectangle, suggesting an element of balance and thoughtful order. This canvas also features blocks of color which assert themselves like confident statements against a subtly shaded background of beige and soft grays.
