More about this artwork

This painting by Wassily Kandinsky, titled "Standing" (1930), is a vibrant and intricate example of abstract art, reflecting Kandinsky's unique vision and interpretation of forms as he moved further into abstraction. In "Standing," we observe an energetic arrangement of geometric shapes and lines that create a lively sense of movement. The composition features a variety of forms including triangles, circles, and linear elements, all interplaying with one another across the canvas. The colors are vivid and expressive, characterized by bold contrasts of blue, orange, red, yellow, and hints of white and black, which help to emphasize the separation and interaction of shapes. The central arrangement, with visual elements like a circle that could be interpreted as a sun or moon, and triangular, mountain-like shapes, gives a subtle nod to more real-world forms while maintaining a strong abstract quality. The abstract nature of the painting avoids direct representation, inviting viewers to indulge in pure visual sensation and interpret the imagery based on their own perceptions and emotions.Kandinsky's work often aimed to evoke sounds and emotions through his visual language, and in "Standing," the dynamism and harmony of the composition could be seen as an attempt to evoke a symphonic feeling, where every shape and color contributes to an overall sensory experience.Overall, Kandinsky's "Standing" can be seen as a celebration of form and color, expressing a complex inner world through abstract visual means.
