More about this artwork

This painting, titled "Spring" by Peter Hansen, captures a scene filled with a tranquil yet vivid atmosphere, likely set in an urban park during the early 20th century. The central figure is a young woman wearing a dark coat and a stylish hat, with hints of a red garment underneath. She appears contemplative or possibly distant, pushing a pram which adds a personal or maternal element to her character.Behind her, the park is alive with the playfulness of children. There are several groups of kids engaged in various activities. To the left, two children are sitting close together on the ground, engrossed in an activity, possibly drawing or playing with toys. Another group is engaged more actively, with one child balancing on the park’s guardrail. On the right side, a solitary girl in a red dress stands slightly apart from others, watching or waiting for her turn to join in.The setting is characterized by thin, leafless trees that suggest early spring before foliage has fully returned. The architecture visible in the background, with its sharp details and pastel colors, enhances the urban feel of the scene.

Coastal scenes, portraits, and art nudes by Peter Hansen (1868-1928). Hansen was a Danish painter known for his Impressionist style and his depictions of Danish landscapes and coastal scenes. In the 1890s, he traveled to Paris to study under some of the leading Impressionist painters of the time, such as Claude Monet and Camille Pissarro. The French Impressionist movement had a major influence on Hansen's work, and he began to develop a style that combined the Impressionist techniques of broken color and light with the strong tradition of Danish landscape painting.
