More about this artwork

"La Revue Blanche" is a captivating painting by Henri de Toulouse-Lautrec, characterized by its striking, bold, and somewhat whimsical style. The painting features a woman dressed in an elaborate and stylish winter ensemble. She wears a large, fur-collared coat decorated with red crab-like patterns around the edges, suggesting a touch of flair and perhaps even a sense of humor in her fashion choices. Her dress underneath appears to be dark, adorned with small red dots that complement the decorations on her coat. This suggests a coordinated and fashionable outfit that reflects popular styles from the late 19th century.A standout feature of this painting is her hat, which is particularly distinctive. It has a whimsical design resembling a large white piece adorned with a dramatic black feather that swirls upward, creating a dynamic and eye-catching element. The background of the painting is muted, placing all the emphasis on the woman and her attire. This lack of detailed setting focuses the viewer's attention solely on her, highlighting Toulouse-Lautrec's interest in character and style over environment.Overall, "La Revue Blanche" reflects Toulouse-Lautrec’s fascination with the Parisian nightlife and its colorful personalities, capturing the elegance and extravagance of the era with a unique artistic touch that is both engaging and expressive.

Henri de Toulouse–Lautrec (1864–1901), was an aristocratic alcoholic French artist known for his socially unacceptable lifestyle. He observed and documented the Parisian nightlife through his post-impressionist artworks. Sharing a similar style as other well-known French artists such as Paul Cézanne and Georges Seurat, he created memorable works of art depicting the lifestyle that he enjoyed before passing at a young age.
