In this painting, there is a vivid portrayal of a kingfisher in mid-flight, captured right above the water’s surface. The bird’s wings are fully spread, and its feathers exhibit a rich blend of colors—bold blue and green hues on the head and wings, with warm tones of orange and peach on the belly. The kingfisher’s long, pointed beak is directed downwards, towards the water, hinting at a moment just before a catch. Thin, delicate bamboo shoots rise vertically on the right side of the artwork, contrasting with the bird’s dynamic pose. The background is a wash of pale gray, subtly indicating a misty environment. Below, near the lower edge of the frame, the suggestion of water is depicted through faint lines and washes of ink that represent gentle ripples, enhancing the serene yet focused essence of the scene.
