Ernst Stern (1 April 1876 – 28 August 1954) was a Romanian-German scenic designer, celebrated for his profound influence on early 20th-century stagecraft. Although born in Romania, Stern built his career in Germany, where his creative insights left a lasting mark on both stage and film design during a time of artistic innovation.
Stern became a central figure in the rise of expressionism, a movement dedicated to articulating emotion and symbolism through vivid color palettes, abstract forms, and striking contrasts.
