Antonietta Brandeis (also known as Antonie Brandeisová) (1848–1926) was an Italian artist of Czech origin, celebrated for her landscape paintings, genre scenes, and portraits. In addition to these, she produced many religious pieces—particularly altarpieces—making a significant contribution to ecclesiastical art during her era.
Born in Bohemia, which at that time was part of the Austrian Empire, Brandeis later relocated to Italy, establishing herself as a skillful painter. She attended the distinguished Academy of Fine Arts in Venice, where she was among the earliest women admitted, paving the way for future generations of female artists.
Her career thrived in Italy, where she earned acclaim for her intricate and sensitive depictions of Venetian city views and scenes from daily life. Collectors, particularly those visiting Venice from abroad, prized her ability to render light and atmosphere in her works.
Throughout her lifetime, Antonietta Brandeis presented her art at numerous exhibitions both in Italy and internationally. Today, her paintings remain admired for their technical mastery and lyrical quality, expressing her Czech roots alongside her profound affinity with Italian landscapes and culture.
