More about this artwork

"Peaceful Feeling" by Kęstutis Jauniškis is a captivating painting that utilizes a palette of earthy and serene blues, creating a soothing landscape impression. The artist employs broad, horizontal bands of color which could be interpreted either as abstract representations of a landscape or possibly a water scene. The use of texture and varying thickness of the paint adds depth to the work, contributing to its overall tranquil yet dynamic feel. Each layer of color interacts with the others in ways that suggest depth and distance, perhaps reminiscent of a quiet sunrise or a gentle dusk. The soft sky, possibly hinted at in the whitish-blue areas at the top of the painting, adds a sense of calm overhead that complements the busier, textured stripes with small flecks of vibrant colors that could be seen as reflections on water or flowers in a meadow. This artwork, with its calming colors and abstract form, seems designed to evoke a sense of peace and contemplation, inviting viewers to pause and immerse themselves in the serene emotions it conveys.

Kęstutis Jauniškis, born in Lithuania in 1961, has cultivated a distinctive voice within contemporary art. His academic path began with studies in economics at Vilnius University, where he earned his MA in 1985. Alongside this, Jauniškis nurtured his enthusiasm for visual arts by attending the Vilnius Academy of Fine Arts, from which he graduated in 1986. The combination of these two disciplines forms a unique foundation that continues to shape his artistic outlook and pursuits.

At the core of Jauniškis’s work is a fascination with architectural forms and colour, together with their connection to the environment. His creations frequently blend real life with elements of fantasy, resulting in compositions that bring a poetic dimension to structures that might otherwise seem logical or restrained. Through his art, he strives to evoke the shapes, hues, light, and sky that stir his emotions, seeking to preserve these impressions on canvas.

Abstraction lies at the heart of his creative method, providing a way to express the emotional resonance that the everyday world has for him. In his paintings, Jauniškis discovers beauty in subjects that others might overlook or find lacking in appeal. He especially enjoys experimenting with fresh abstract forms and objects, consistently challenging the limits of his visual language and inviting viewers to recognize hidden beauty in ordinary settings.

Kęstutis Jauniškis has presented his artwork in both Finland and Lithuania, reflecting his ongoing evolution in style and subject matter. His participation in the group exhibition 'The Modern Lithuanian Art' at the Museum of Modern Art in Valencia, Spain, stands out among his achievements. Jauniškis continues to make a significant impact on contemporary Lithuanian painting, drawing upon his distinct background and a deep interest in abstraction and emotional expression through art.
