More about this artwork

The painting features a strikingly large, surreal bud, rendered with luminous and soft-textured petals that dominate the foreground. These petals, detailed with iridescent shades of blues, greens, and subtle pinks, seem to be gently unfurling. Delicate ribbons bind some sections of the bud, contributing to a sense of restrained growth or potential about to be released. In the background, a chaotic blend of darker, swirling forms and shadowy figures creates a sharp contrast to the bud's serenity, suggesting a turbulent environment or perhaps the challenges surrounding a new beginning.

Saulius Leviška, a Lithuanian artist, was born on September 8, 1964, in Šiauliai, Lithuania—a city that remains both his home and his creative base. From an early age, he was enthralled by the magic of art, especially drawn to the vividness and appeal of colored pencils. These early childhood tools served as his initial introduction to creative exploration, ultimately inspiring him to attend a children’s art school. He spent four significant years there, experiences that firmly established his bond with the art world.

When it was time to decide on his main area of study, Saulius Leviška naturally chose the arts. Between 1981 and 1987, he studied at the university’s Faculty of Arts, a period that sharpened his artistic skills and deepened his commitment to creative expression. Both during his university years and after receiving his diploma, he actively painted and took part in several exhibitions in Šiauliai as well as throughout Lithuania.

Although his early career showed much promise, Leviška’s artistic endeavors were put on hold due to life’s circumstances, resulting in a lengthy pause. Yet, following a break that lasted two decades, he rediscovered his love for painting and once again embraced his brushes. This return initiated a revived phase of creativity and artistic involvement, reaffirming the significance of art in his personal and professional life.

Leviška’s personal life continues to center around Šiauliai, where he resides with his wife, Violeta. Together they are the proud parents of a daughter, Agnė, and a son, Jokūbas. Through his lasting commitment to art, Saulius Leviška remains an active contributor to the cultural life of his city and to Lithuania’s wider artistic community.
