More about this artwork

The painting depicts a close-up portrait of a pale cream-colored horse. Its head is turned slightly towards the right, with an attentive and perhaps wistful expression in its dark eyes. Details are finely rendered, showcasing the velvety texture of the horse’s nose and the silky sheen on its coat. The horse is wearing a simple halter, adorned with a pattern, suggesting a touch of rustic elegance.

Arūnas Vilkevičius, a self-taught artist, is celebrated for his watercolor paintings and his mastery in crafting unique pieces of classical furniture. For over thirty years, he has skillfully blended two art forms: designing and creating classic wooden furniture, and expressing subtlety through watercolor. What began as a childhood pastime gradually transformed for Arūnas into a lifelong, passionate calling.

Throughout more than three decades, Arūnas has consistently focused on designing and producing classic wooden furniture and decor. He draws primary inspiration from Art Nouveau, a style identifiable by its natural motifs—depicting trees, flowers, birds, and endless, sweeping lines. The presence of nature is an essential thread running through all of Arūnas' works, lending them a unique sense of natural beauty and balance.

Although Arūnas enjoyed drawing and painting from an early age, it was not until 2016—motivated by significant life changes and a desire for new artistic challenges—that he dedicated himself seriously to watercolor. He quickly discovered the medium’s captivating nature and technical challenges, appreciating both its unpredictability and the freedom it offers. Experiencing both the difficulties and satisfactions inherent in artistic exploration, Arūnas recognizes that perfection remains just out of reach. Still, it is this quest itself that enriches his life, deepening his perspective on both art and the world.

Well known for highly realistic artwork, Arūnas dedicates countless hours to each project, frequently working from his own photographic references. While his reputation in Lithuania continues to grow, he takes an active part in international art events and competitions, earning numerous distinctions, including top honors at the American Art Awards. Among his achievements are exhibitions at the Fabriano in Acquarello festival in Italy, recognition as a finalist in the prestigious ARC Salon Competition, and awards from groups such as Mondial Art Academia in France and the International Masters of Watercolor Alliance. His art has been exhibited widely throughout Europe, with solo shows in Vilnius and group exhibitions in Finland, Spain, Poland, Slovenia, and Italy.
