Abstract Expressions

Abstract painting is a form of artistic expression in which there are no clearly identifiable objects or images. Instead, abstract painting often uses colour, shape, line and texture to create emotion, thought or atmosphere. This art form can be seen as independent from reality, allowing the artist to freely express their inner world and ideas.

Abstractionism: one of the first movements of abstract painting that emerged in the early 20th century. It includes a wide range of artists and their works, which feature unconventional combinations of shapes, colours and lines.

Expressionism: a movement in which artists seek to express their emotions and personal experiences through abstract images. This movement can have bright colours, strong contrasts and stormy textures.

Suprematism and Constructivism: abstract paintings that rely on strict geometric shapes that reject naturalistic imitations. Artists in this movement aim to create harmony between form, colour and space.

Interpretation of abstract paintings can be difficult, as they often do not correspond to literal reality. It is important to recognise that abstract paintings can give more freedom to both the artist and the viewer. In order to understand an abstract painting, it is worth considering first the composition of the painting, the colour combinations, the relationships between shapes and the texture.
